Abstract: Objective:To systematically evaluate the effectiveness of "summer treatment for winter disease" acupoint applications in the treatment of cough variant asthma(CVA) in children.
Methods:Relevant studies of "summer treatment for winter disease" acupoint applications in the treatment of CVA in children were retrieved from electronic databases including China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Wanfang database, Chongqing VIP information Chinese scientific journals database(VIP), Chinese Biomedical Literature database(CBM), PubMed, Cochrane Library and Embase database, from the inception to February 2020. Meta-analysis was conducted on the clinical trials selected according to the inclusion criteria.
Results:In total, 10 randomized controlled trials(RCTs) involving 826 children were selected the meta-analysis. The analysis indicated that the use of acupoint applications in the treatment group was more effective than in the control group. In terms of the pulmonary function test and ACT scores, the forced expiratory volume in the first second(FEV1), forced expiratory volume in the first second/forced vital capacity(FEV1/FVC), peak expiratory flow rate(PEF) and ACT scores were better in the treatment group than in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).In terms of immunoglobulins panel, IgM, IgG and IgA values in the treatment group were significantly higher than those in the control group, while IgE values of treatment group were significantly lower than those of the control group.
Conclusion:The acupoint applications therapy of"summer treatment for winter disease" can increase the overall efficacy of treatment in children with CVA improve the pulmonary function, and regulate the body's immune status. Limited by the number and quality of included studies, large samples and high-quality studies are needed to further verify this conclusion.
