Abstract: Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) combined with acupuncture in the treatment of tic disorders in children. Methods Totally 121 children with tic disorders treated in the First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2022 to June 2023 were selected and divided into observation group(n=56) and control group(n=65) according to different treatment methods. The control group was treated with TCM drugs combined with western drugs, and the observation group was treated with TCM drugs combined with acupuncture. The treatment period was 8 weeks. Observe the clinical efficacy, Yale global tic severity scale(YGTSS) score, and clinical global impression(CGI) score of the two groups. Results The total effective rate of the observation group was 82.1%(46/56), while the control group was 73.8%(48/65). There was no statistical difference between the two groups(P>0.05). After treatment, the observation group was superior to the control group concerning the effect on TCM syndrome(P<0.05). After treatment, the YGTSS score and CGI-SI scale score of the two groups significantly decreased; compared with those before treatment, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05), but there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05). Subgroup analysis showed that: for different types of TCM syndrome differentiation, different types, and different severity of TD, the treatment was more effective than before treatment in both groups, but there was no statistical difference between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The therapeutic effect of TCM drugs combined with acupuncture is equivalent to that of TCM drugs combined with Western medicine in the treatment of tic disorders. TCM drugs combined with acupuncture is helpful to improve the TCM syndrome of children and is worthy of clinical application.
