Abstract: Based on the syndrome-differentiation method of prescriptions corresponding with syndromes and long-term experience in clinical practice, the vocal tics in children is classified as the following four syndromes of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM): Sangen decoction syndrome (with the characteristics of mild congestion of throat, enlarged tonsils and follicular hyperplasia on the posterior wall of throat, which is common after respiratory tract infection), Banxia Houpu decoction syndrome (characterized by sense of foreign body in throat and sputum attached to posterior wall of throat on examination), Xifeng Ditan decoction syndrome (with the characteristics of involuntary shouting or filthy speech, no abnormalities on throat examination), and Liuwei Dihuang decoction syndrome (characterized by dry throat and clearing throat, red tongue and little coating, thread and rapid pulse, and dark redness of posterior wall of throat on examination). The prescriptions are made correspondingly, which include empirical formulas and famous ancient formulas, and three cases are enclosed.
